Growth expected to continue for the eCommerce market
It will be up to retailers to integrate the appropriate eCommerce software needed to streamline operations if they want to keep pace with growing online shopping habits. A recent report from eMarketer illustrates the rampant surge in Web-based retail expenditures, with experts anticipating a 17 percent increase in sales worldwide this year.
Overall, consumers across the globe will spend in excess of $1.2 trillion on clothes, electronics and other products available on eCommerce websites. Although the American online retail market remains consistent, the biggest surge in growth is coming from developing regions.
For instance, online sales in Indonesia are expected to grow 71.3 percent in 2013 to reach $1.8 billion, while China is on pace to grow the second-fastest at 65.1 percent to $181 billion.
As eMarketer notes, these developing regions could present a significant opportunity to savvy online retailers.
“There is still significant room for growth, though, in developing markets where many internet users are still not buying online. Western Europe and North America are the only regions in the world where a majority of the online population is also a digital buyer,” the report adds.
North American consumers are still spending more money online, with sales forecast to increase by 12.5 percent. Meanwhile, Western Europe sales will grow by a similar amount – 14 percent.
